Living up to my title

Ugh, today was the worst I have felt out there running since I started back up running. I was sore and tight, along with tired and out of breath. On the bright side I had a watch telling my how slow I was, and I was actually pretty close to my training pace (faster then it still) but I realized today that I am glad I have 14 weeks of training left, and that I hope it is enough!

I felt numb in my mind today which I think made things worse, I kept letting my mind think about nothing which in turn ended up on me focusing on every ache and pain I was having. I can't wait until my tape gets in, should be here tomorrow, that way I can try to help support some of this foot pain I have been having.

I love the watch it is heavy and rubs a little but I am planning on getting a little something to wear underneath it to help with the sweating I have and the pinching it causes. I thought it was very easy to use, start stop, lap and power off, no scrolling through menus and all, it is set up just get up and go!

I am still going to use my spreadsheet for now, although with Garmin Connect everything is right there for me. I am looking forward to putting lots of miles on this thing! I am ready to get and gear and get out of slow motion.

Watch out

So I got my Garmin 305 today in the mail. I am super excited to try it out on Sundays 3 mile. I think it looks a little bulky and feels awkward but I am sure that I will get used to it the more I wear it.

I started lifting weights again today, I didnt want to wait to far into my training plan to add in my weights and throw everything off. I figured while I am still on the low end of working out was going to be the best. I did Back and Bi's today. I am tired and sore now.

I set up my profile on my garmin, I am excited to try it out, not so excited that I am going to run before Sunday, but I am looking forward to waking up early so that is out of character.

Slacker

I am taking a day off tomorrow, my left foot is hurting so I really need to tape it up and let it rest before it flares up more. My bone spur feels like I am walking on a broken heel. I think a couple days taped and ice maybe some aleve will loosen it up and Ill be back on track.

Screw You phone

So I start my pandora radio, and cardio trainer app on my phone. Then it counts down, 3...2...1... go. I am running and running, once again trying to write my blog in my head while I am running. Then the sprinklers go off, screw you sprinklers I just started my run and you got me. I am going strong I am excited to see how I am pacing, and typically by this point cardio trainer would have been telling me at least that I had hit the half mile mark or whatever, but I let it pass, I keep on going. Today I am running the same way as everyone else, which is way more exciting because I dont run past people, I PASS people.

Grandpa and Grams were out with their Yorkie, but they had changed up their path because I snuck up behind them, the dog likes me though, I can tell. Then I passed a couple old men walking and a little ways ahead I see a fit runner chick, and then I get closer and closer, and I am super excited to be about to pass the fit chick. I pass her and realize I still haven't heard anything about my pace or my distance, at this point I am 3/4th the way home so I dont even care. I know the route is roughly the 2 miles I am supposed to do, and I know that I already went too fast so oh well.

Ok so I am rambling and confusing myself now, so my point of this whole blog is that I am buying a garmin watch because I finished my run and it said that I ran .1 miles in 20 mins. I know I am slow but I could walk on my hands faster than that!

Tomorrows Planned Run

Tomorrows planned run is only 2 miles, supposed to be a 12 min pace again, but there is no way I am running that slow. I still have about 2 or 3 weeks until I start my tempo and speed runs, I think I am looking forward to those the most. I think that they will be the most fun, reminding me the most of running in high school. I may have to find a real track to run then on to make the distances easier, but if I win the watch (Garmin 405CX) on ebay then that won't be a problem.

Speaking of running and high school I ran on a track not too long ago, actually it was on my last attempt to working out and running about 3 months ago. I forgot how much I have missed running on a track, I missed the smell, it was so comforting to me, so familiar. I still have my spikes from high school, they don't fit me anymore but I just can't throw them away. I would love to run hurdles again, although right now I don't know if I could do it, it is sad because of how natural it came to me back then. The sad part to me is how I just stopped doing what I loved because of my pride and trying to make a point to a coach who yelled at me, I was stubborn then and I am stubborn still. I never would have walked out mid season if I could go back and do it all again.

Excited for my run tomorrow, its nice having something to look forward to at 5 am, since there is really nothing else exciting about 5 am.

Sticking to the plan

I would like to pretend that I am sticking to my training plan, but really I just only felt like running 2 miles this morning. I was supposed to run at a 12 mile pace, but for two miles that is way too slow. This morning I had a little bit later of a start being that it is the weekend, and I was up until like 12 last night.

There were about 10 people that I passed, and the later I run the more I notice that it is a different set of people out there. At 5 am I am running past the "runners" at 645 its the people I usually drive by when I am running late for work. There are a few that look like they are in great shape physically, yes I check people out when I am running, but for the most part I am passing the walkers. The walkers usually travel in pairs, although this morning there were about 6 walking alone. The walkers smile or nod at me, but its not the same look in their expressions as the runners. Bikers are the worst though, its like they don't want to smile or nod, but you catch them looking at you so they feel obligated.

I felt like one lady wanted to give me a high five this morning, I passed her twice, I also passed a guy power walking twice, and a mother and her daughter. The daughter smiled the mom looked at me like she didn't want to share the sidewalk, so I passed them in the grass. I did notice that there must be some unwritten rule or a sign posted somewhere that says which way you are supposed to go around the loop, I apparently did not get that memo because I was the only one who took a right onto the loop instead of a left.

There is a reason to my madness and why I go left, I turned around three quarters of the way home once and realized that the very beginning of my run felt like all uphill when I came back through it. To remedy this I found ways to add mileage by adding roads in verses turning around, and adding more hills. I tried to start out a little slower today, because I had been running hard at first, all running slow did was make me realize just how much my calves really were tight. I hate my calves, they were tight half the run, and when I look down at them all I see is how huge they are. I am not saying that I want chicken legs, but I have some seriously large legs, even when I weighed 105 my legs were larger then the rest of me. I found that no matter what I do they never get smaller and Brusters for breakfast after running doesn't help either.

Grrrrr

So frustrating that I am one of those people that weighs themselves at least once a day, I know super lame right? I do though, and its a bad habit, so I have gained weight these last two weeks that I have been running. What the hell is with that?!? That's it, I quit, ha ha not really just annoying. On the positive side of things, I found an extremely detailed running excel spreadsheet. There are no less then 10 tabs on it, insane, someone has less of a life then I do to design that!

I have my long run in the morning, I am looking forward to it, although I already have been running further then my running plan says, I really need to start to follow it. 15 weeks to the half marathon. I think I am looking forward to the Big Brother Big Sister 10k way more then the hills of downtown.

My foot had been hurting, used my trusted friend KT tape, and my plantar fasciitis has returned to its normal level of pain which is still not good, but I can live with it. The knees were great until it rained today, but the rain has ceased and my built in barometer has relaxed.

Hoping for a great run tomorrow, going to get back on the plan so I can start tracking goals better. I really hope that I have something more interesting to write about then killer horseflies and dogs in baskets.
